Turkey Time!

We had a fantastic trip to Memphis for Thanksgiving this year, but I can't say I'm going to win any awards for the number and quality of pictures taken.  We got zero pictures of T with the great grandparents, zero family group pictures, and zero pictures of anything that would make you know what holiday we were celebrating.  Oh well.  We had a great time anyway. 

The majority of time at my grandparents' was spent as it usually is: eating and relaxing and watching TV, mostly football.  This year's Thanksgiving menu: Smoked Turkey, Honeybaked Ham, sweet potato casserole, rice casserole, green bean casserole, cornbread stuffing, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, chocolate chip pumpkin pie, pecan pie, lemon icebox pie, and chocolate chess pie.  DELISH!

 Friday we went over to BT's sister's house for lunch, and T got in some great playtime with his other grandparents and his cousins.  They had a great time, and Thomas loved playing with all the "new" toys around.  He also ate the mess out of some barbeque for lunch.  He ate BBQ pork, baked beans, cole slaw, a couple french fries, and some goldfish.  He's developing a boy's appetite for sure.

So overall, we had a great trip.  Glad to be home.  Laundry is piled up, no groceries in the house.  Must catch up as soon as possible, but for today, it's back to work!

Allison Lewis Photography Session

Back around the middle of October, we had the opportunity to spend a morning with a college friend and photographer, Allison Lewis.  I was really excited to have her take Thomas' one year pictures, because I already knew what wonderful work she did.  We met early one Saturday morning at the new Railroad Preservation Park downtown, and not only was Thomas totally 'on' all morning, but the pictures turned out BEAUTIFUL.  There are way too many to post them all, but here are my absolute favorites:

Speaking of pictures, and not to leave the newest out, here is the first picture we have of T's little brother or sister :-)  It is grainy and a little shiny looking because it's actually a picture of the picture that I took with my cell phone, but you get the idea.  There's a little alien peanut growing inside there :-)

Mr. Patient

Wow we've had quite a few days.  Thomas woke up Thursday morning with a croupy sounding cough.  Even when he had the same cough Friday  morning, we just didn't think much of it because it wasn't waking him up at night, he didn't have a fever, and he just really didn't seem that bothered by it.  Saturday morning, though, was a different story.  The cough was still there, but his breathing had gotten really bad overnight.  Our doctor's office had us take him to the ER at Children's, where they diagnosed him with Croup and a complication from it called Stridor, which is an inflamation of the upper airways where it starts to swell shut.

After one breathing treatment, the stridor returned, so they gave him an oral steroid and then followed it with a second breathing treatment.  Luckily that seemed to hold, but they wanted to keep him all day Saturday and overnight for observation.  So there we were, on our hospital adventure!

This was at 5:30am this morning.  We didn't get much sleep

So....we are on the mend.  They discharged T at 10:00 this morning, and we've been taking it easy today.  I'm hoping he gets a great night's sleep with the humidifier keeping him company tonight.  It was a scary 24 hours, especially yesterday morning.  If you've ever heard a kid with this Stridor thing, you know why.  It wasn't like anything I've ever heard.  I'm just glad our little guy's on the mend, as evidenced by dinnertime tonight :-)

This Week

I know I've been MIA this week. 
It's been a busy week, and I've been sort of burning the candle at both ends. 

Thomas had his one-year checkup on Thursday.  He did great with his shots.  Only cried a few minutes.  His one year stats: 24 pounds (75th%tile) and 30.5 inches (also 75th Percentile). 

We had a great weekend: took T to SU homecoming, got to catch up with some great friends, and just had an overall nice, relaxing weekend.  I meant to take pictures, but it never happened.  I'll have to get on that this week. 

So forgive my lack of blogging, it's just been one of those dry spells, and with the combination of a busy everyday life and my current state of nausea and puking (which I think may be starting to get a little better at least), sometimes something has to give, and this week, well, it was the blog :-)

Halloween

What a great weekend!  In between the regular old weekend routine, we checked out the new outlets in town (which are FANTASTIC, by the way), and then got into the halloween spirit.  Last year, we didn't do much for Halloween, because if you'll remember, we had this little sleepy ten day old on our hands:

But this year, we were a lot more ready to rumble.  We went to get our pumpkin yesterday and did some fun pumpkin carving on the deck yesterday evening.  Thomas wanted to 'help' alot more than he was able to, but he had a blast nonetheless.  I took quite a few pictures of him, and when I saw this first one, I got a little twinge of nostalgia.  He looks like a BOY, and not a little baby!

Then, today, after another trip to those great outlets, we came home and got our guy dressed up in his bumblebee costume again for some pictures outside. 

This year we had a ton of trick-or-treaters!  We ended up running out of candy by about 7:15!

Costume Parade and Harvest Party!

Today was Thomas' school's Harvest Day.  They had a pumpkin patch, a costume parade, and a big Harvest party afterwards.  I am very thankful to have a job and be in a position where I can come and go to these things for him without it being a big deal at all.  I do NOT take that for granted.  That kind of flexibility is worth a million bucks.

Cut to today: those poor crawlers were so tired!  The parade was scheduled for 9:15, and for one year olds, this means right at morning nap time.  But they did great.  Of course when Thomas saw me he had an utter meltdown and HAD to get out of the buggy.  That was fine.  I carried him in the parade, as did a few other parents.  He sure was a cute bumblebee!

After the parade of costumes outside, everyone came back in for the party.  All I can say is I'm glad they had to deal with the kids the rest of the day!  When I left Thomas, he was chowing down on a mini cupcake, a couple of cheese puffs, some gummy bears, and a mini oreo!  I foresee a sugar crash in his future, but what else is Halloween for? :-)
