Still Playing Around...

Playing Around

I can see how people could get obsessed with their photo editing software. I was just playing around with the standard photo software on my computer, and look at the difference between photo one:

And photo two:

Anyone have suggestions for good photo editing software, preferably for FREE? I hear photoshop is good, but is it worth the subscription? Or is there a free version? Obviously I'm just now looking into this and haven't really done any research yet, but any advice anyone (Anna) might have would be super helpful :)

Playtime

Some might call it overstimulation....

I call it supercute.

I Wish...

there was a 'dislike' button for RSV on facebook...Or that RSV had a 'fan page' and it could ask me to become a fan and I had the option to say I was 'not a fan.'

Poor kid has been fairly miserable for almost a week now, and miserable baby = miserable parents. it's really not been too bad, and he's slowly on the mend. The Bronchiolitis has gotten much better. We went in this morning for a follow-up with the pediatrician and she said his breathing is MUCH better. He's just still got that nasty cough and some wheezing. Obviously, you can tell the difference in the way he's feeling through pictures. This was T last week:

And this is him this morning at the doctor's office:

So, even though the Brochiolitis is getting better, the RSV has now caused an ear infection. She said since the ear infection is being caused by a virus, there's not much we can do, but since she knows that we need to get back to work (especially since I must have the most understanding boss ever, being gone for over two months and now needing to stay home with a sick kid), that she was going to put him on Amoxil to speed up the process. Either way, he'll probably be out of daycare the rest of the week. And that's a whole other ball of wax: having to pay for an entire week's worth of daycare and not using it.

Anyway, amid the multiple loads of laundry, the copious amounts of disenfecting, the baby that is ALL off his game when it comes to eating and sleeping, and the routine that is once again totally out of whack, I have managed to stay calm, relaxed, and grateful that even though he's sick, I get just a little bit more time at home with my baby boy. No matter how bad he feels, his smile still brightens my day.

Two Weeks @ Daycare and...

my little boy has RSV. Well, technically it's Bronchiolitis caused by the RSV, but either way you look at it, it's pathetic. We thought he was getting a bad cold around Monday, and it turned into a nasty cough. My momma's intuition kicked in, and I was right on. The doctor heard his cough and immediately diagnosed it. Since he's otherwise healthy, he should be fine, we just have to make sure he keeps eating, and that his breathing stays how it is now. He sure is pathetic though. I told him that when he gets older I'll let him have chicken noodle soup and couch time in footie pajamas with cartoons when he's sick, but for now, a bottle and lots of cuddling will have to do. BT is home with him today, and i'll stay home with him tomorrow. We're playing next week by ear right now. This is his poor little pathetic self at the doctor's office yesterday.

Birthday Weekend

Yesterday was my birthday, and I think I am now in the ambiguous thirties. Creeping closer and closer to mid-thirties but I am okay with it. We went to Mobile for a fun weekend with family and friends and had a fantastic time. Friday night we stayed in at my parent's house and ate some great Santa Fe Soup. They had my favorite birthday treat: a chocolate chip ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins!

Then, Saturday morning, mom and I took Thomas over to meet her good friend, Margaret. He was really good at her house, and she even got the chance to feed him, which gave me a nice break to have a cup of coffee.

After that, we headed over to a Mobile tradition, lunch at the Dew Drop Inn. We met dad, Myles, Grandmother, Aunt Darlene, Margaret and her husband, and Jessica, Jeremy, and Luke there for lunch. Jess got in plenty of cuddle time with T, and Luke loved getting to see his new best friend :)

Then Saturday night, my parents were more than happy to have some alone time with Thomas while BT and I went out to dinner with Elizabeth, Charles, Jessica, and Jeremy. After a great dinner at La Pizzaria, we capped off the night at the Wine Loft.

Sunday morning, Bobby Bowden was the guest preacher at our church. What a great speaker and an amazing opportunity to hear such a legend.

Overall, a fantastic night and a great weekend!

Best Face

Thought I would enter another I Heart Faces weekly contest, and this week's theme is 'Best Face.' I can't think of a better face right now than my adorable soon-to-be three month old.

Freaked Out Doggie

Sometimes we like to compile and update lists of all things that scare the bejesus out of Mr. Beau. He is a sweet sweet dog but definitely has a paranoid side. So far, fireworks have topped the list of his ultimate fears, until today.

The smoke detector in our kitchen had a low battery. Who knew the little beep it let out every few minutes would put the fear of God in him, but it did. This is a picture BT sent me from his phone earlier today (note the tail tucked between the hind legs, the dog's equivalent to crapping your pants). After it was taken, he spent an hour outside sitting in fear and shaking in the corner of the yard by the fence. Don't worry, the battery has been replaced now (after a frantic trip to walgreens for a nine volt battery to keep his sanity) and all is well....

Waiting...

It's a snow day here. Daycare's closed, and we're waiting on this torrential 'dusting' we're supposed to get.

Hope to post a clear video of the Beauster out in the snow as soon as I get a chance. The last one was taken with my phone and it's hard to get a really accurate picture of how much the guy loves it. Can't wait to use the flip to really capture the essence of Mr. Beau and his excitement over seeing his soulmate snow again.

Oh Well...

Resolution Three: Dress For Work
Today: Jeans.

Oh Well, two out of three ain't bad.

In my defense, I look workish everywhere else minus the jeans: the sweater, the sweater jacket thingy, the clarks, the jewelry, and hair and makeup done. So I consider that a success. BT told me I had a mom jacket on this morning. But he said it was okay since I'm a mom now. I'm not sure what to take out of that....

Resolutions Check

Resolution One: hit the gym more frequently
Progress: went to gym yesterday, going tomorrow, going Friday.

Resolution Two: eat more vegetarian meals.
Progress: Last night, we had a DELICIOUS vegetarian meal. Greek Eggplant and Veggies with Feta served over Couscous that I infused with minced garlic and olive oil. It was DELICIOUS. Super filling, and could have just as easily come from Taziki's. It's going on our regular lineup. Not only is this going to be good for us to cut out a little meat, but it's also cheaper! Tomorrow night we are trying a vegetarian creole skillet. I'll let you know how that turns out.

Resolution Three: Dress for Work.
Progress: I have a bad habit of throwing on random clothes and getting ready as quickly as possible for work. With my new position, I just really feel the need to look a little more like I know what I'm doing and that I'm in charge. Not that I didn't before. If there were days I knew I was going to be speaking somewhere or in meetings places, of course I would look nice, but I wanted to start doing this on a daily basis. So far, so good. I have "dressed" for work and looked like I know what I'm doing for two days now :)

It's all very easy this first week! :-)

Back to the Salt Mines...

Tomorrow is the official end of my maternity leave.

it's back to work in the morning, and I have mixed feelings about it. We are going to be on a much tighter budget with T in daycare now, but it was a no brainer for me to go back to work. Although the budget is much tighter, we are a two income family, and there's simply no way financially we could have done it any other way. Besides, it works for us, and I think it will work for us well. I sort of feel guilty, but for a different reason. I don't really feel guilty about him going to daycare. I feel more guilty about being so excited about going back to work!

If anything, what I have learned through being home for this long is that it's not really for me. I've enjoyed relaxing and being home with T for this time, and wouldn't trade it for ANYTHING, But it's HARD, and long-term, I think I will be a better mom going to work every day and working outside the home. I feel a huge need to exercise my brain right now. And also, I am very fortunate to really really love what I do. And I think I am good at it. I think me working will make me a better mom to T when I am home and with him at all times outside of work. Besides, have I ever mentioned my schedule? You really can't beat it. We'll be home together in the afternoons by 4 every day, and by 3 on Fridays. So it's certainly not like I burn the midnight oil at work or anything :)

Anyway, he starts "school" tomorrow, and I go back to work, so today is a busy day of getting daycare supplies labelled and ready, getting my closet and clothes organized and figuring out what on EARTH I'm going to wear in the meantime while I lose the last of this baby weight, and getting lunches made and bottles washed and the house cleaned. I do well with lots to do and a schedule.

It's been fun, but the honeymoon is over, and the party's just beginning.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Don't know about you today, but we are being LAZY!

Enjoy your day, and Happy New Year!
